A 25 year-old man, Emmanuel Adjei has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Bekwai circuit court after 55 wrappers of cannabis concealed in a black polythene bag were found on him at Aputuogya, a community in the Bosomtwi District of the Ashanti Region.

The convict, who is an electrical welder’s apprentice, was guilty of possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority, contrary to section 2(1) of the PNDC law 236/90.

He was arrested around 7:30pm on June 24, 2018, by a police patrol team following a raid at a drug hub close to the Aputuogya lorry station.

Prosecutor, Detective Inspector Stephen Ofori, told the court the cannabis popularly known as ‘wee’ weighed 13.76 grams at the time of Emmanuel Adjei’s arrest.

According to him, the convict claimed ownership of the dried leaves which were eventually tested and proven to be cannabis.
